Cherokee Garden Club was founded in 1928 in Atlanta, Georgia.  It became a member of the Garden Club of Georgia in 1928, and a member of the Garden Club of America (GCA) in 1963.  Cherokee is part of GCA's Zone VIII.

The purpose of the Club shall be to stimulate the knowledge and love of gardening and to protect, improve and restore the quality of the environment through programs and action in the fields of education, conservation and civic improvement. As members of the Garden Club of America we share and support the advantages of association by means of open meetings, conferences, correspondence and publications.

Founded in 1913, The Garden Club of America is a volunteer, nonprofit 501(c)3 organization comprised of 200 member clubs and approximately 18,000 club members throughout the country.   For more information about the Garden Club of America, click here.

Zone VIII Meeting and
Flower Show

In late April Cherokees attended the Zone VIII Meeting and Flower Show, "Gold Leaf," in Palm Beach.  



Several blue ribbons were won by Cherokees!



Cherokee Caroline T. won the Novice Best in Show Award for Botanical Arts. Her beautiful piece is shown at right. Congratulations Caroline!






Cherokee Hosts GCA Visiting Gardens

The Houston Garden Club (top right) and Memphis Garden Club (bottom right) enjoyed spring club trips to Atlanta. Cherokee Garden Club and Peachtree Garden Club opened member gardens for the GCA friends and visitors.




Cherokees in Conservation

On March 12, members enjoyed a tour of Blue Heron Nature Preserve led by Atlanta Audubon guide, Lili Reinhart.



Louise Howard Park Dedication


On May 5th, Cherokees dedicated a bench at Louise Howard Park.


Shown at right is the Cherokee native plant garden in Louise Howard Park.

Take a walk along the Beltline and stop to enjoy Louise Howard Park. 




GCA Plant of the Year

The 2019 Montine McDaniel Freeman Horticulture Award has been awarded to Aristolochia macrophylla Dutchman's Pipe. Click here to read more.

In late September, the Congressional Pollinator Caucus held an event in Washington to raise awareness of their cause. Click here to learn more.




GCA to Receive National Award

The Garden Club of America will receive the coveted Rachel Carson Women in Conservation Award from the National Audubon Society in May 2019. The Award recognizes American women whose exceptional talent, expertise and energy greatly advance conservation.
